Network Builder

The Network Builder will be responsible for strategy and implementation to grow a new program designed to provide an integrated system of services for small business and entrepreneurial ventures. Project coordinates the development and implementation of an entrepreneurial resource network in the service area.

The responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for an integrated network of services.
  • Recruit and work with service provider partners within the network; understand their needs and facilitate their work in the network.
  • Interact with entrepreneurs regularly to monitor usage of the network and identify gaps in services.
  • Coordinate all activities of the network; develop new programs as needed; provide leadership to existing programs.
  • Manage day-to-day operations; hire, train and supervise network navigators, other professionals, and administrative staff; oversee database and budget.
  • Oversee promotion and outreach efforts; interact with corporate leaders and media.
  • Oversee financial viability of the network; analyze potential funding streams and implement as needed; manage financial reporting.
  • Serve as liaison to executive committee and advisory groups; encourage two-way flow of information.
  • Serve as liaison with Founding Partner(s).
  • Seek funding for on-going support of the network; coordinate grant writing; manage relationships with foundations and other funding sources.
  • Interact with leaders of other networks across the country; provide information and best practices to others; learn from others in the field.

The ideal candidate should have an undergraduate degree and an advanced degree in business or technology or the equivalent in business experience. Preference will be given to those who have hands on entrepreneurship experience.

The candidate must also be able to:

  • Analyze complex information, make decisions, and negotiate among parties at all levels. Develop good working relationships with a broad range of constituents. Know how to create and work as a team.
  • Understand the entrepreneurial process, including start-up and growth phases.
  • Communicate orally and in writing with a broad range of constituencies.
  • Resolve complex problems where there are significant differences of opinion.

  • Supervise and manage people and programs.
  • Provide oversight for all financial aspects of the network.

Network Communicator

The key responsibility of the Network Communicator is to communicate the vision of an integrated network of services to a broad range of constituencies.

The responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Create and implement a strategic marketing communications plan and budget to support the programs’ long- and short-term goals and objectives. Develop appropriate communication and marketing strategies and tactics to meet the desired outcomes for all internal and external audiences. Assist in the evaluation of those strategies and tactics as appropriate. Provide appropriate written reports on the progress toward outcomes of the communication plan.
  • Develop and monitor the program’s print and broadcast media relations. Plan and implement public relations programs for all internal and external audiences, including resource providers, political and community partners/supports, referral sources and others as identified. Conduct media training, preparation and coordinate media appearances for executive
  • Plan, create and implement a paid advertising program that meets objectives within allocated advertising
  • Create and maintain key content on the program’s
  • Implement or manage the implementation of specific communications tactics. This could include copy writing, editing, script writing, development of press releases, creation of advertising programs, attendance at expos, pitching stories to media, developing website materials or writing product promotion materials. This often involves managing and determining best use of internal resources vs. external vendors, such as design firms, video producers, talent and production crews, photographers, writers and marketers. In all cases, attention to detail, clarifying expectations with partners, managing deadlines and budgets, clear communication, written documentation, continual progress reports and follow up after completion of the project are critical. Knowledge of social media and the ability to maximize Internet-based promotional techniques is a benefit, as is background in search engine
  • Develop and maintain resource partner relationships and communications
  • Compile and be accountable for the communications
  • Demonstrate leadership in developing marketing collaboration opportunities for network resource partners.
  • Demonstrate leadership in establishing consistent and meaningful messages and content around the work of the program and its partners and monitor the impact of those
  • Develop, formulate and lead the program crisis management
  • Support and team with the program staff.

This position requires a well-rounded communications and public relations professional with proven expertise in developing, implementing and assessing the full range of strategic communications. At least four years of experience in public relations, media-related work or a related field is required. The successful candidate must demonstrate outstanding writing and speaking ability and presentation skills. An undergraduate degree in journalism, English or public relations is required. An advanced degree in a communications-related or business field is preferred.

The candidate must also have:

• Strong writing/editing skills. Marketing communications experience is preferred, ideally in an entrepreneurial environment.
• Clear understanding of strategic communication and marketing theory and practice.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize as needed. High degree of resourcefulness and promptness. High degree of reliability, thoroughness, consistency and accuracy. Must have excellent organizational ability and attentiveness to detail.
• Strong computer and software skills including Windows, Word, PowerPoint and Excel; ability to learn new applications and complex features as needed.
• Experience and success in consulting with clients at all levels. Must be able to meet or exceed expectations regarding quality of work product, deadlines, budget and customer service.
• Understanding of the entrepreneurial process, including start-up and growth phases.
• Ability to quickly learn the capabilities of the resource partners within the network.
• Experience in website marketing and management, including a working knowledge of html.

Network Navigator

The key responsibility of the Network Navigator is to provide a direct link between services within the network and the entrepreneurs and small business owners in the community who need these services.

The responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of Network small business development organizations and their programs and
  • Match the program’s clients to small business
  • Assess client needs and evaluate service
  • Research network resource partner programs and services to make appropriate referrals within the
  • Follow-up with clients to ensure quality
  • Perform research as needed when entrepreneurial need can not be satisfied within the
  • Document services provided to clients and provide regular reporting about client
  • Develop and maintain the database(s) necessary to support client tracking and other network operations; help train resource partners in use of database(s) and assist in their
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with network resource partners; understand partner needs and facilitate joint activities. Keep current on services offered by resource partners.
  • Provide an avenue of communication between network resource partners to identify areas of possible
  • Provide advice and guidance to network resource partners to improve delivery of small business services.
  • Develop training materials to help resource partners and clients become knowledgeable about network programs and
  • Seek opportunities to promote the program throughout the community including speaking engagements, business expositions and networking

The successful candidate will be a skilled advisor and facilitator and have a bachelor’s degree in business with an emphasis in entrepreneurship or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Direct experience with the entrepreneurial process is preferred, with at least two years’ experience in entrepreneurial operations or service provision. Bilingual candidates (English and Spanish) are encouraged.
